Dannah Phirman (née Feinglass) is an American actress, comedian and writer who is best known for voicingBecky Botsford/the titular superheroine, on thePBS Kids animated TV seriesWordGirl and Penny on theNickelodeon animated TV seriesThe Mighty B!, and for co-starring as Narge Hemingway in theAdult Swim seriesNewsreaders. She is also the co-creator and co-star of theHulureality TV parody seriesThe Hotwives. She was a member of the long-running sketch comedy troupeRespecto Montalban, one of the original improv groups at theUpright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
Phirman majored in theater atSUNY Geneseo and graduated in 1997.[2] After moving toNew York City in 1998 she became involved with theUpright Citizens Brigade Theater where she was a part of the improv sketch groupRespecto Montalban. Phirman teaches sketch comedy writing and improv, and has performed in two-person shows likeEye Candy (withDanielle Schneider), which went to the 2002U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, andSpecial Delivery (withPaul Scheer), a parody of a British children's show in which postal workers rummage through people's mail in search of heartwarming lessons and edibles. She and Scheer won a 2004 Nightlife Award forAutomatic Vaudeville,[3] called "the bestvariety show inNew York City" byTime Out New York. She has since collaborated with creative partnerDanielle Schneider on other sketch shows such asLet's Get Awkward andDead Heiresses at theLos Angeles UCB, as well as a five-woman improv showMother F#$@er.Dead Heiresses was also developed as a pilot forComedy Central in 2007.
Dannah Phirman was a cast member on Fox’s MADtv from 2000-2001, where she notably portrayedAngelina Jolie,Debi Mazar,Liza Minnelli andShirley Temple. Phirman provided the voice ofthe title character as well as her alter ego, Becky Botsford, in thePBS Kids animated series,WordGirl,[4][5] Penny, the side-kick toAmy Poehler's Bessie Higgenbottom inNickelodeon'sThe Mighty B!,[6] and Zaria on the Nickelodeon original series,Tak and the Power of Juju. She was a contributing voice toCurrent TV'sSuperNews! show and has recently provided voices for the video gameMass Effect as well asWhite Knight Chronicles: International Edition.
Phirman has written episodes ofWordGirl andThe Mighty B!, and thedirect-to-video sequel toBeverly Hills Chihuahua with her writing partnerDanielle Schneider. Phirman and Schneider are currently working on scripts for the upcoming moviesCatfight forNew Line Cinema andBoys Are Stupid, Throw Rocks at Them forUniversal.
Phirman and Schneider created theHulu reality TV parody seriesThe Hotwives and were writers on theNBC sitcomsMarry Me andTelenovela. In 2017, Phirman and Schneider worked as writers and producers onIt's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as well as on theTruTV sitcomI'm Sorry.
