Daniella Kolodny (Hebrew:דניאלה קולודני) is an Israeli-American rabbi and the first female rabbi in theUnited States Navy.
Kolodny was born inJerusalem but raised inColumbia, Maryland attending unaffiliated Columbia Jewish Congregation.
She earned a degree in international relations fromBoston University, as well as master's degrees in public administration and Jewish communally service fromHebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles. She studied the Torah atPardes Institute of Jewish Studies.[1][2]
In 1997, Kolodny entered theJewish Theological Seminary and she was ordained in Spring 2004.[1] Kolodny was inNew York City during theSeptember 11 attacks, which she spoke about in a 2002 speech.[3]
In 2004, Kolodny enlisted in the US Navy.[4][5] She has served at both theUnited States Naval Academy and the United States Merchant Academy.[1] In 2010, the ConservativeRabbinical Assembly appointed Kolodny as its Community Development Coordinator.[citation needed]
