Daniela Thomas (born 1959) is a Brazilianfilm director,screenwriter andeditor.

Early life

In 1959, Thomas was born as Daniela Gontijo Alves Pinto in Brazil.Thomas' father isZiraldo Alves Pinto, a cartoonist. Thomas' brother isAntonio Pinto.

Career

In 1994, Thomas co-directed her first feature film,Terra Estrangeira aka Foreign Land, alongsideWalter Salles. Thomas is also its screenwriter and production designer.[1]In 1998, Thomas debuted as a theatre director with her version ofThe Seagull byAnton Chekhov, starringFernanda Montenegro and assisted byLuiz Päetow.[2] In 2007, again withSalles, Thomas directedLinha de Passe, the film which gaveSandra Corveloni aBest Actress Award at theCannes Film Festival.

Thomas was also one of two creative directors for Rio's contribution to the2016 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.

Thomas' filmVazante premiered at the67th Berlin International Film Festival.[3]
