Daniel Adshead (born 2 September 2001) is an English professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forNational League clubBoston United.
Born inManchester,[4] Adshead is a product of theRochdale Academy. He began training with the first team at the age of 14. He attracted scouts fromManchester City,Manchester United,Chelsea,Arsenal,Liverpool,Tottenham Hotspur,Barcelona andBayern Munich.[5]
In 2016, he made his debut for Rochdale under-18s aged just 15. Adshead travelled with the first team during a pre-season camp toTenerife in July 2017.[6]
In September 2017, he became the club's youngest ever player with an appearance in theEFL Trophy aged 16 years, 17 days.[7] Due to child protection regulations, Adshead had to change away from his teammates.[5]
On 5 April 2019, Adshead was announced as theLFE Apprentice Of The Year for the2018–19 League One season. He was described as "a model apprentice and a fine young man with the potential of a great future in the game".[8]
On 18 June 2019, Adshead signed for newly promotedPremier League clubNorwich City for £750,000.[9][10]
On 26 August 2020, Adshead joined Dutch second-tier clubSC Telstar on loan for the 2020–21 season.[11]
On 19 August 2021, Adshead joined League One clubGillingham on loan.[12] Having suffered an injury that had prevented him featuring for the Kent side since November, it was confirmed on 11 February 2022 that he had returned to his parent club.[13]
On 21 June 2022, Adshead joined League One clubCheltenham Town for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year contract.[14] In January 2023, he returned to Rochdale on loan until the end of the season,[15] knee surgery preventing him from making an appearance as the club were relegated.[16]
In December 2023, Adshead joinedNational League clubAFC Fylde on a short-term loan until the end of January 2024.[17] His loan was then extended until the end of the season.[18]
Adshead was released by Cheltenham at the end of the 2023–24 season.[19]
On 12 December 2024, Adshead joinedNational League clubBoston United.[20]
On 9 November 2018, Adshead was called up to theEngland U18 team for the first time for a tournament in Spain.[21] He scored on his debut against the Netherlands.[22]
On 5 September 2019, Adshead scored on hisEngland U19s debut during a 3–1 victory over Greece atSt. George's Park[23]
