Daniel William Hubbs (born January 23, 1971) is an American baseballcoach and former player. He is the bullpen coach for theAthletics ofMajor League Baseball (MLB). He was the head coach of theUSC Trojans baseball team.
Hubbs attendedKentridge High School inKent, Washington, graduating in 1989. He played for the school's baseball team as apitcher and had a 21–4win–loss record, but broke his foot as a junior and had an elbow injury during his senior year.[1]
Hubbs enrolled at theUniversity of Southern California (USC) and made theUSC Trojans baseball team as awalk-on.[1] He playedminor league baseball in theLos Angeles Dodgers andPhiladelphia Phillies organizations.
Hubbs worked as thepitching coach for theCalifornia Golden Bears from 2000 to 2011.[2] He rejoined USC as an assistant coach in 2012.
On February 13, 2013, USC promoted Hubbs to head coach.[3] He was dismissed on May 29, 2019.[4]
Hubbs became the director of pitching development and strategies for theDetroit Tigers in 2020[5] and served in the role until 2021. In 2023, he became theOakland Athletics' pitching development coach.[6] After the 2023 season, he was named Oakland's bullpen coach.[7]
