American sprinter (born 1949)
Dale Alexander (born April 28, 1949) is an American formersprinter andmiddle-distance runner.[1]
Alexander is fromNicodemus, Kansas and attended high school inBogue, Kansas, where he competed in three sports. His third cousin is NFL football playerVeryl Switzer.[2]
He first competed for theButler Grizzlies ofButler Community College for two seasons. He then transferred toKansas State University, where he was coached byDeLoss Dodds.[2]
Alexander was a multiple-timeAll-American for theKansas State Wildcats track and field team, finishing runner-up in the4 × 880 yards relay at the1970 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and runner-up in the600 yards at the1971 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.[3][4][5] He ran multiple distances but preferred the440 yards to the longer 600 yards.[6]
At the1971 Pan American Games, Dale won the gold medal leading off the U.S. team inthe 4 × 400 m relay.[7]
