TheDaily Jang (Urdu:روزنامہ جنگ) is anUrdu languagenewspaper headquartered inKarachi, Pakistan. It is considered one of Pakistan'snewspaper of record and a leading newspaper of Pakistan.[2][3][4][5]

History

It is the oldest newspaper of Pakistan in continuous publication since its foundation in 1939 fromDelhi,British India,[3] first published in 1941 duringWorld War II, hence the name (Jang) translating to "war" in Urdu.[6][4] After theindependence of Pakistan in 1947, then youngMir Khalil-ur-Rahman became one of the pioneering publishers inKarachi, Pakistan.[6][3]

Its current group chief executive and editor-in-chief isMir Shakil-ur-Rahman. Past editors and contributors have includedMahmood Shaam,Nazir Naji andShafi Aqeel.[7]

Jang is published by theJang Group of Newspapers. It was originally published as a weekly to raise political awareness among Muslims living in British India.[6] It is published fromKarachi,Lahore,Rawalpindi,Quetta,Multan andLondon.[6]
