Dacryodes is a genus of about 60 species of trees in the familyBurseraceae. The generic name is from theGreekdakruon meaning "tear(drop)", referring to howresin droplets form on the bark surface.[1]
Dacryodes species grow as shrubs to medium-sized trees. Their bark is smooth to scaly with palesapwood. Flowers are unisexual. The fruits feature a fleshy and thickpericarp. The fruit ofD. rostrata is considered edible inBorneo.[1]
Dacryodes species grow naturally intropical forests of theAmericas,Africa andAsia. The habitats range from lowland tosubmontane forests from sea-level to 1,500 metres (5,000 ft) elevation.[1]
