Subsequently, Faquirá worked with another side in thethird division,F.C. Barreirense. After a second place inhis first year he led theSetúbal District team to the national championship, andpromotion. His first coaching experience in the second tier happened in 2005 withG.D. Faquirá made hisPrimeira Liga debut in2006–07 with fellow Lisbon sideC.F. Estrela da Amadora,[3] finishing in ninth position and being namedRevelation Coach of the Year. Inhis second season, in spite of tremendous economic problems (up to five months delay in salaries),[4][5] he managed to maintain the squad in its entirety and lead them to another safe finish (13th).
Faquirá joinedVitória F.C. for2008–09, signing a two-year contract.[6] On 14 January 2009, after a 1–2 home loss againstAcadémica de Coimbra inthe group stage of theLeague Cup – theSetúbal-based team had also been defeated eight times in 14 matches in the league – he was sacked.[7]
