DeWayne Julius Rogers (May 9, 1948[1] – August 22, 2020) was an American singer, songwriter,record producer, andmulti-instrumentalist.
A native of Los Angeles,[1] Rogers was eldest of five children born to Eula Bonds and the Rev. Julius Cesar Rogers.[2][1] He began singing at age three and later played keyboards and sang with his father's House of Refuge Church of God in Christ.[2]
He was best known for the tender acoustic piano-based ballad "Say You Love Me", a charting single from his 1975RCA albumIt's Good to Be Alive.Natalie Cole's cover of the song was the first single from her albumSnowfall on the Sahara, released byWEA andElektra Entertainment in June 1999.
He died in 2020 at the age of 72.[3]

D.J.'s mother was Eula. Upon Eula's passing, the senior Rogers married Wanda Rogers who helped raise all of his children. [...] D.J. Rogers is best known for composing, singing, producing and arranging one of the most poignant ballads of '70s Soul: 'Say You Love Me.' This achingly vulnerable and sincere slice of Gospel-rooted R&B devotion - introduced on D.J.'s benchmark sophomore album, "It's Good to Be Alive" (RCA - 1975) - was later recorded by Natalie Cole, Jennifer Holliday, CeCe Rogers and DanishAmerican star, Zindy.
