Cucunubá is a municipality and town ofColombia in theUbaté Province, part of thedepartment ofCundinamarca. It borders with the municipalities ofUbaté,Lenguazaque,Suesca,Chocontá,Tausa andSutatausa.[1]
The urban centre of the municipality is located in theUbaté Valley at an altitude of 2,590 metres (8,500 ft), while other parts stretch over the mountainous sectors of theEastern Ranges of the ColombianAndes. The urban centre is at a distance of 90 kilometres (56 mi) from the capitalBogotá.
The name Cucunubá comes fromChibcha and means "Similarity to a face".[1][2]
Cucunubá in the times before theSpanish conquest was part of theMuisca Confederation, a loose confederation ofrulers of theMuisca.
Modern Cucunubá was founded on August 2, 1600, by Luis Enríquez.[1]
Main economical activity of Cucunubá iscarbonmining. More than half of the municipality's area is covered with farmfields andlivestock farming producers. Main agricultural products arepotatoes,peas andwheat.[1]
