Crostini (lit. 'little crusts';sg.: crostino) are anItalianappetizer (antipasto) consisting of small slices of grilled or toastedbread[1] and toppings.[2] The toppings may include a variety of differentcheeses,meats,vegetables, andcondiments, or may be presented more simply with a brush ofolive oil andherbs or a sauce.
Along withbruschetta, crostini are thought to have originated inmedieval times, when it was typical forpeasants to eat their meals on slices of bread[2] instead of usingceramics.[3]
