Craonne (French pronunciation:[kʁa(ɔ)n]) is acommune in theAisnedepartment inHauts-de-France in northernFrance, northwest ofReims.

History

It was the site of theNapoleonicBattle of Craonne in 1814. The former town was totally destroyed by the French artillery during theNivelle Offensive inWorld War I, inspiring the songLa Chanson de Craonne. It had anarboretum. The town that exists today was rebuilt from the 1920s.
