Courtney Lindsey (born November 18, 1998) is an Americantrack and field athlete who competes as a sprinter.[ 1]
Born and raised inRock Island, Illinois ,[ 2] he attendedRock Island High School . He used to train at aboxing gym in theQuad Cities operated by his step father. Lindsey began his collegiate career atIowa Central Community College . In July 2019, he signed a letter of intent to transfer toTexas Tech University .[ 3] [ 4]
In June 2023, competing forTexas Tech University , he ran a new personal best time of 10.02 in the heats of theNCAA Outdoor Championship in the 100m event inAustin, Texas . He then triumphed in the final, running a new personal best time of 9.89 seconds.[ 5] Although, his 4x100m relay team was disqualified at the same event,[ 6] he ran another new personal best of 19.86s to finish runner-up in the 200m race.[ 7]
Competing at the2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships , inEugene, Oregon , he reached the semi-finals of the 100m competition.[ 8] In the 200 metres, he beatFred Kerley andChristian Coleman , amongst others, to finish in third place in the final in a new personal best time of 19.85 seconds.[ 9] [ 10]
In July 2023, he made his debut in aDiamond League event, finishing seventh inMonaco in the 100 metres.[ 11] He was selected for the2023 World Athletics Championships inBudapest in August 2023.[ 12] Competing in the200m in Budapest he qualified for the semi-finals where he ran 20.22, missing out on a spot in the final by 1 hundredth of a second toJoseph Fahnbulleh .[ 13]
On 20 April 2024, he lowered his 200 m personal best to 19.71 seconds at high altitude at theKip Keino Classic inNairobi , Kenya, setting a new track record which as of 10 September 2024 he holds jointly withLetsile Tebogo ofBotswana .[ 14] He was selected to be part of the American team for the2024 World Athletics Relays , taking place inNassau, Bahamas in May 2024.[ 15] On 10 May 2024, he finished runner-up in the 200 metres at the2024 Doha Diamond League .[ 16] He followed that with the runner-up spot at the2024 Prefontaine Classic .[ 17]
He competed in the men's 4 x 100 metres relay at the2024 Paris Olympics .[ 18] [ 19]
