Courtney Lindsey (born November 18, 1998) is an Americantrack and field athlete who competes as a sprinter.[ 2]
Born and raised inRock Island, Illinois ,[ 3] he attendedRock Island High School . He used to train at aboxing gym in theQuad Cities operated by his step father. Lindsey began his collegiate career atIowa Central Community College . In July 2019, he signed a letter of intent to transfer toTexas Tech University .[ 4] [ 5]
In June 2023, competing forTexas Tech University , he ran a new personal best time of 10.02 in the heats of theNCAA Outdoor Championship in the 100 m event inAustin, Texas . He then triumphed in the final, running a new personal best time of 9.89 seconds.[ 6] Although, his 4 × 100 m relay team was disqualified at the same event,[ 7] he ran another new personal best of 19.86s to finish runner-up in the 200m race.[ 8]
Competing at the2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships , inEugene, Oregon , he reached the semi-finals of the 100 m competition.[ 9] In the 200 metres, he beatFred Kerley andChristian Coleman , amongst others, to finish in third place in the final in a new personal best time of 19.85 seconds.[ 10] [ 11]
In July 2023, he made his debut in aDiamond League event, finishing seventh inMonaco in the 100 metres.[ 12] He was selected for the2023 World Athletics Championships inBudapest in August 2023.[ 13] Competing in the200m in Budapest he qualified for the semi-finals where he ran 20.22, missing out on a spot in the final by 1 hundredth of a second toJoseph Fahnbulleh .[ 14]
On 20 April 2024, he lowered his 200 m personal best to 19.71 seconds at high altitude at theKip Keino Classic inNairobi , Kenya, setting a new track record which as of 10 September 2024 he holds jointly withLetsile Tebogo ofBotswana .[ 15] He was selected to be part of the American team for the2024 World Athletics Relays , taking place inNassau, Bahamas in May 2024.[ 16] On 10 May 2024, he finished runner-up in the 200 metres at the2024 Doha Diamond League .[ 17] He followed that with the runner-up spot at the2024 Prefontaine Classic .[ 18]
He competed in the United States men's 4 × 100 metres relay team at the2024 Paris Olympics .[ 19] [ 20]
Lindsey was invited as a challenger to the inaugural2025 Grand Slam Track meeting in Jamaica. He placed 5th in the 100 m race there on April 4.[ 21] On 24 April 2025, he was named in the American team for the2025 World Athletics Relays inGuangzhou , China in May 2025.[ 22] He ran as part of the men's 4 × 100 m relay team which won their heat and qualified a team for the World Championships before finishing in second place overall.[ 23] [ 24] In May 2025, he finished second in the 200 metres race at the2025 Doha Diamond League 0.01 seconds behind reigning Olynpic champion Letsile Tebogo.[ 25] The following week he ran 20.04 seconds (0.4m/s) to win the 200 metres at the2025 Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athlétisme de Rabat , also part of the2025 Diamond League .[ 26] He ran 19.87 seconds to place second in the 200 metres at the2025 Prefontaine Classic .[ 27]
He reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres at the2025 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships , winning his heat in 10.05 seconds ahead of Christian Coleman andBrandon Hicklin . After winning his semi-final the following day, he lowered his personal best in the final to 9.82 seconds as he ran to a second place finish behindKenny Bednarek .[ 28] [ 29] At the same championships, he reached the final of the 200 metres, placing fourth overall.[ 30]
In September 2025, he was a semi-finalist in the 100 metres at the2025 World Championships inTokyo , Japan.[ 31] He also ran in themen's 200 metres , reaching the semi-finals and won a gold medal in themen's 4 x 100 metres relay at the championships.[ 32] [ 33]
