Cottrell Key is an island in theFlorida Keys inMonroe County,Florida,United States. It is within the boundaries of theKey West National Wildlife Refuge.[1]
Located in the Outlying Islands of the Florida Keys, it is the northernmost of theMule Keys that are 9 miles (15 km) west ofKey West.[2]
It is named for CaptainJeremiah Cottrell,[3] who was the captain of alightship that was anchored at the key in the early 19th century.[4]
