TheConstitutional Court of Colombia (Spanish:Corte Constitucional de Colombia) is thesupremeconstitutional court ofColombia. Part of theJudiciary, it is the finalappellate court for matters involving interpretation of the Constitution with the power to determine the constitutionality of laws, acts, and statutes.
The court was established by theConstitution of 1991, alongside theSupreme Court of Justice,Council of State, andSuperior Council of Judicature.[1] Its first session began in March 1992. The court is housed within the shared judicial complex of thePalace of Justice located on the north side ofPlaza de Bolívar in theLa Candelaria neighborhood ofBogotá.
The Constitutional Court consists of ninemagistrates who are elected by theSenate of Colombia from ternary lists drawn up by thePresident, theSupreme Court of Justice, and theCouncil of State. The magistrates serve for a term of eight years. The court is headed by a President and Deputy President.
