Conor McCarthy (born 11 April 1998) is an Irish professionalfootballer who plays as adefender forEFL League One clubNorthampton Town. He has previously played forCork City andSt Mirren.
ABlarney native, McCarthy began his career with local club Blarney United, before signing forCork City. Whilst playing for Cork's under-19 team, McCarthy captained Cork to a 1–0UEFA Youth League win overHJK Helsinki - the first victory by an Irish club in the competition's history.[3][4] McCarthy signed for Scottish clubSt Mirren in January 2020.[5]
In June 2022 it was announced that he would sign for English clubBarnsley on 1 July 2022, signing a three-year contract.[6][7]
In January 2024, he joinedLeague Two clubSwindon Town on loan until the end of the season.[8][9]
He was released by Barnsley at the end of the 2024–25 season.[10]
On 23 June 2025, McCarthy agreed to joinLeague One sideNorthampton Town on a two-year deal upon the expiration of his Barnsley contract.[11]
McCarthy has represented the Republic of Ireland atunder-18 andunder-21 level.[4]
