Concetto Lo Bello (13 May 1924 – 9 September 1991) was an Italianassociation football internationalreferee. He holds the record for refereeing the most games inSerie A (328).
His career spanned from 1944 to 1974, refereeing his first international match in 1958.[citation needed][1]
He officiated in 34 international matches, including theWest Germany–USSR semi-final in1966. He had been provisionally chosen to referee the1970 FIFA World Cup Final, but theItalian team reached the final, so he could not officiate.[citation needed]
Lo Bello also refereed theEuropean Cup finals of1968 and1970, as well as theInter-Cities Fairs Cup 2nd leg final in1966 and theUEFA Europa League second-leg final in1974.[citation needed]
After retirement, he entered politics, as a member of parliament for theChristian Democrat party.He was Minister of Sport for a spell, and, briefly, was Minister for Drought. In 1986, he was electedmayor of Syracuse, but was only in the job for five months. In 2012, he was posthumously inducted into theItalian Football Hall of Fame.[2]
