The city ofBuenos Aires is administratively divided into fifteencomunas,[1] unlike theProvince of Buenos Aires, which is subdivided intopartidos, or the rest of Argentina, in which the second-order administrative division isdepartamentos.[2] Eachcomuna encompasses one or more neighbourhoods (barrios), which are represented in the respective community centres for administrative purposes.[3]
The division bycomunas was instituted by the 1996 Constitution of the City of Buenos Aires,[4] and modified in 2005 by Law #1777.[5] The law was again modified in 2008,[6] 2011,[7] and 2013.[8]
Thecomunas are serially numbered. They are listed below in numerical order together with their constituent neighbourhoods.[9]
