Colm Joseph FeoreOC (/ˈkɒləmˈfjɔːr/;[1] born August 22, 1958) is a Canadian actor. A 15-year veteran of theStratford Festival, he is known for hisGemini-winning turn as Prime MinisterPierre Trudeau in theCBC miniseriesTrudeau (2002), his portrayal ofGlenn Gould inThirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (1993), and for playing Detective Martin Ward inBon Cop, Bad Cop (2006) and its sequelBon Cop, Bad Cop 2 (2017).
His other roles include Martin Harrison inChicago (2002), Lord Marshal Zhylaw inThe Chronicles of Riddick (2004),First GentlemanHenry Taylor on24 (2009),Cardinal Della Rovere onThe Borgias (2011–2013),Laufey inThor (2011), General Ted Brockhart onHouse of Cards (2016–2017), Declan Gallard on21 Thunder (2017),Wernher von Braun inFor All Mankind (2019), andSir Reginald Hargreeves onThe Umbrella Academy (2019–2024). Feore was born on August 22, 1958, inBoston,Massachusetts.[3] His parents, Dr Dermot Feore and Elaine Taylor,[4] wereIrish, and the family moved back toIreland shortly after Colm was born,[5] remaining there for several years before emigrating to Canada, landing in Ottawa in 1961[6] before moving toWindsor, Ontario.[7] After graduating fromRidley College inSt. Catharines, Ontario, he attended theNational Theatre School of Canada inMontreal,Quebec.[8][9]
Feore honed his acting skills as a member of the Acting Company of theStratford Festival of Canada, North America's largest classical repertory theatre. He spent 17 seasons at Stratford where he rose from bit parts to leading roles, includingRomeo,[10]Hamlet,[10]Richard III,[10] andCyrano.[10] He returned in 2006 to star in four productions, includingDon Juan in both English and French and asFagin inOliver! In 2009 he played the main role ofMacbeth in the playMacbeth, the main role of Cyrano inCyrano de Bergerac, and Lear inKing Lear in 2014,[11] all performed at the Stratford Festival Theatre.[12] He also has appeared onBroadway asCassius in the production ofJulius Caesar starringDenzel Washington asBrutus.[13]Off-Broadway, for thePublic Theater, he wasClaudius in aHamlet production that starredLiev Schreiber.[14]
In Canada, Feore's most famous roles were as Prime MinisterPierre Trudeau in the critically acclaimed television mini-seriesTrudeau,[5] a role for which he won aGemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series, as classical pianistGlenn Gould in the 1993 filmThirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould,[5] and as by-the-bookEnglish Canadian detective Martin Ward in the box-office hitBon Cop, Bad Cop.[5] He also played a crazed marketing executive imposter in the second season of the Canadian TV series,Slings and Arrows,[10] a role that continued for several episodes. The show has run in the United States on theSundance Channel.
Outside Canada, Feore has appeared in numerous film, theatre and television roles. He is perhaps most famous in the United States for his supporting roles in suchHollywood films asChicago,City of Angels,Pearl Harbor,The Sum of All Fears,Paycheck,[5] andThe Chronicles of Riddick.[10] In 1999, he appeared inStephen King'sStorm of the Century as the powerful ancient wizard Andre Linoge. He was the crooked Los Angeles Police Chief James E. Davis in 2008'sChangeling.[11] In 2011, he appeared asLaufey, King of theFrost Giants, in the live-actionsuperhero filmThor.[15] In 2014, he portrayedDr. Francis Dulmacher inGotham.[10] He portrayed the First GentlemanHenry Taylor on the seventh season of24,[10] appeared as Tad Whitney inThe West Wing second-season episode titled "Galileo" and played the billionaire suspect Jordan Hayes in the 2011Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Flight". He played supernatural murderers in two episodes ofFriday the 13th: The Series.[16]
On June 8, 2002, Feore received an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree (D.Hum.) from theUniversity of Windsor in Windsor.[17][18] In October 2012, he was awarded an honoraryDoctor of Letters degree (D.Litt.) byWilfrid Laurier University inWaterloo, Ontario, in recognition of his contributions to Canadian theatre and film.[19][20]
Feore was honoured with Gascon-Thomas Award from theNational Theatre School of Canada in 2013, the award is given annually to an actor that makes an exceptional contribution to the growth of theatre.[9] In the same year, he was made anOfficer of the Order of Canada (OC) "for his contributions as an actor of the stage and screen, notably by bridging Anglophone and Francophone cultures as a fluently bilingual performer."[21]
In 2019, Feore received the Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award in Film from theGovernor General's Performing Arts Awards.[22] He won theCanadian Screen Award forBest Supporting Actor at the9th Canadian Screen Awards in 2021, for the filmSugar Daddy.[23]

Feore has been married toDonna Feore (née Starnes), a choreographer and theatre director associated with theNational Arts Centre and theStratford Festival, since 1994.[24] He was previously married to actress Sidonie Boll, whom he met at the National Theatre School, from 1983 to 1994. Feore has three children: son Jack with Boll, and son Thomas and daughter Anna with Donna Feore.[24]
Feore is fluent in French.[25]
