Colebatch is a small village andcivil parish in southwestShropshire, England. The population of the Civil Parish as at the2011 census was 210.[1]
The village lies on theA488, one mile south ofBishop's Castle, on the road toClun. Also nearby, to the east, is the village ofLydbury North, while the hamlet ofCefn Einion lies to the west.
In the village, on the west side of a tributary of theRiver Kemp, are the earthwork remains of Colebatch Castle, a smallmotte castle.
The village is named after the Colebatch family who owned the village and castle of Colebatch. Descendants includeJohn Colebatch andHal Colebatch. The name was originally theNorman wordd'Colebatche.[2][3]
