Clinch County is acounty located in thesoutheastern part of theU.S. state ofGeorgia . As of the2020 census , the population was 6,749.[ 1] Thecounty seat isHomerville .[ 2] The county was created on February 14, 1850, named in honor ofDuncan Lamont Clinch .[ 3]
According to theU.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 824 square miles (2,130 km2 ), of which 800 square miles (2,100 km2 ) is land and 24 square miles (62 km2 ) (2.9%) is water.[ 4] It is the fourth-largest county in Georgia by land area and third-largest by total area. Eastern and southeastern portions of the county lie within theOkefenokee Swamp and itsfederally protected areas .
The vast majority of Clinch County is located in the UpperSuwannee River sub-basin of the Suwannee River basin, with just a portion of the western and northwestern edge of the county, southwest and well northwest ofDu Pont , located in theAlapaha River sub-basin of the same Suwannee River basin.[ 5]

As of the2020 census , the county had a population of 6,749. Of the residents, 25.4% were under the age of 18 and 17.9% were 65 years of age or older; the median age was 39.8 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 93.2 males. 0.0% of residents lived in urban areas and 100.0% lived in rural areas.[ 18] [ 19] [ 20]
The racial makeup of the county was 63.8% White, 29.1%Black or African American , 0.4%American Indian and Alaska Native , 0.3%Asian , 0.2%Native Hawaiian andPacific Islander , 2.1% from some other race, and 3.9% fromtwo or more races .Hispanic or Latino residents of any race comprised 3.7% of the population.[ 20]
There were 2,587 households in the county, of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them and 30.5% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present. About 27.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 1,639 families residing in the county.[ 19]
There were 3,025 housing units, of which 14.5% were vacant. Among occupied housing units, 67.1% were owner-occupied and 32.9% were renter-occupied. The homeowner vacancy rate was 0.9% and the rental vacancy rate was 6.1%.[ 19]
As of the 2020s, Clinch County is a Republican stronghold, voting 78% forDonald Trump in2024 . For elections to theUnited States House of Representatives , Clinch County is part ofGeorgia's 8th congressional district , currently represented byAustin Scott . For elections to theGeorgia State Senate , Clinch County is part of District8 .[ 21] For elections to theGeorgia House of Representatives , Clinch County is part of District174 .[ 22]
