John Clifford Shaw (February 23, 1922 – February 9, 1991)[1] was asystems programmer at theRAND Corporation. He is a coauthor of the firstartificial intelligence program, theLogic Theorist, and was one of the developers ofGeneral Problem Solver (universal problemsolver machine) andInformation Processing Language (aprogramming language of the 1950s). Information Processing Language is considered the true "father" of theJOSS language.[2] One of the most significant events that occurred in the programming was the development of the concept of list processing byAllen Newell,Herbert A. Simon and Cliff Shaw during the development of the languageIPL-V.[3] He invented thelinked list,[4] which remains fundamental in many strands of modern computing technology.
