Clemens Schmid (born 18 August 1990) is an Austrian racing driver currently competing in theDeutsche Tourenwagen Masters andGT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup with theGRT Grasser Racing Team.[2]
Schmid began karting in 2000 by competing in theGerman Karting Championship.[3][4]
Schmid made his car racing debut in 2009 by competing in the BMW 325 Challenge.[4][5]
In 2010, Schmid joined Seyffarth Motorsport to compete in thePorsche Carrera Cup Germany. He finished the season in eighteenth. He also joined the team in the third round of theADAC GT Masters.
In 2011, Schmid joined Herberth Motorsport to compete in thePorsche Carrera Cup Germany. He finished the season in eighteenth once again. He also joinedLechner Racing as a guest driver in the final round of thePorsche Supercup atYas Marina Circuit.
Schmid then competed in the 2011–12Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, where he finished third.
In 2012, Schmid remained withLechner Racing to compete in thePorsche Carrera Cup Germany. He finished the season in thirteenth. He also joined the team for theMonaco round of thePorsche Supercup
Schmid would then claim the title in the 2012–13Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East title with Al Nabooda Racing after taking nine wins.
In 2013, Schmid competed in thePorsche Supercup as a part of theLechner Racing Academy. He finished the season in seventeenth.
In the 2013–14Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East, Schmid finished as runner-up.
In 2014, Schmid competed in both thePorsche Carrera Cup Germany and thePorsche Supercup withLechner Racing. He finished eleventh in the A-class standings of the Carrera Cup Germany and the tenth in the drivers' standings of the Supercup. In the Supercup he took one race win atSilverstone Circuit.
Schmid took his secondPorsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East title in the 2014–15 season after taking seven wins during the season.
In 2015, Schmid joinedBentleyTeam HTP to compete in his first full season in theADAC GT Masters.[6] Schmid and his teammate Fabian Hamprecht took two podiums and finished nineteenth in the drivers' championship.[7] Schmid also joined the team to compete in the24 Hours of Spa and the24 Hours of Nürburgring.
In 2016, Schmid remained withHTP Motorsport.[6] He competed in both theBlancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and theBlancpain GT Series Sprint Cup. He set the pole position at the24 Hours of Spa but was later disqualified along with all the otherMercedes-AMG cars.[8][9]
In 2017, Schmid remained in both theBlancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and theBlancpain GT Series Sprint Cup, but switched teams to joinISR. In the Sprint Cup, he scored one second place atCircuit Zolder together with his teammateFilip Salaquarda.
In 2018, Schmid joined Auto Arena Motorsport to compete in the first three rounds of theADAC GT Masters and the24 Hours of Nürburgring. He then joined Attempto Racing to compete in the final two rounds of theBlancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.
In 2019, Schmid competed in the fullBlancpain GT Series Endurance Cup for Attempto Racing.
In 2020, Schmid joined theGRT Grasser Racing Team to compete in theADAC GT Masters with Niels Lagrange as his teammate.[9][10] He finished the season in thirty-third.
In 2021, Schmid remained in the championship with the same team.[9] His teammate for the season wasMike David Ortmann.[7] This time Schmid came twenty-fourth in the drivers' championship. He also joined the team in theGT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
In 2022, Schmid remained with theGRT Grasser Racing Team to compete in his first season of theDeutsche Tourenwagen Masters.[9][11] He finished the season in twenty-second. His best finish of the season was a sixth place atImola Circuit. In the final qualifying session of the season at theHockenheimring, he took his best qualifying result by setting the second fastest time of the session.
In 2023, Schmid would the stay with the team for his second season in theDeutsche Tourenwagen Masters.[12] He would also compete for the team in theGT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.[13]
