Clay Collard (born March 10, 1993) is an American professionalmixed martial artist and formerprofessional boxer. A professional since 2011, he formerly competed for theUFC. He currently competes in the lightweight division of theProfessional Fighters League.

Background

Collard grew up inCastle Dale,Utah.[4] Collard started wrestling at the age of six, picking up boxing at the age of 11.[5] Collard attended Emery High School, where helettered in wrestling.[3]

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

Collard took his first and only amateur mixed martial arts bout less than two weeks after his 18th birthday.[3] He won the bout via 12-second knockout and subsequently turned professional to fight the next weekend.[3] Collard competed solely inUtah regional circuit, amassing a 13–4 (1 NC) record before being signed to the UFC.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Collard made his promotional debut on August 23, 2014 as a short notice replacement againstMax Holloway atUFC Fight Night 49, replacing an injuredMirsad Bektic.[6] Collard lost the fight via TKO in the third round.[7]

Collard next facedAlex White on December 6, 2014 atUFC 181.[8] Collard won the fight via unanimous decision.[9]

Collard facedGabriel Benítez on June 13, 2015 atUFC 188.[10] He lost the fight by unanimous decision.[11]

Collard was expected to faceAndre Fili on September 5, 2015 atUFC 191.[12] However, Fili was forced out of the bout with injury and replaced byTiago Trator.[13] Collard lost the fight by split decision and was subsequently released from the promotion.[14]

Collard was expected to headlineLFA 75 against Arthur Estrázulas on September 6, 2019 but withdrew from the bout due to a short notice call from the UFC. After four years away from UFC, Collard returned to the promotion and was scheduled to faceDevonte Smith on August 17, 2019 atUFC 241 replacingJohn Makdessi.[15] However, on the fight week news surfaced that Collard withdrew from the fight due to an undisclosed reason and was replaced by promotional newcomer Khama Worthy.[16] Following the ordeal, Collard was released from the promotion again.

Professional Fighters League

In March 2020, Collard signed withProfessional Fighters League and competes in the lightweight division.[17] He was expected to participate in the season 2020 but due toCOVID-19 pandemic the league cancelled the whole season.

2021 season

Collard made his PFL debut againstAnthony Pettis on April 23, 2021 atPFL 1.[18] He won the bout via unanimous decision, out boxing Pettis throughout the bout.[19]

Collard faced Joilton Lutterbach atPFL 4 on June 10, 2021.[20] He won the bout via split decision.[21]

Collard facedRaush Manfio in the semifinals of the Lightweight tournament on August 13, 2021 atPFL 7.[22] Collard lost the bout via unanimous decision.[23]

2022 season

Collard facedJeremy Stephens on April 20, 2022 atPFL 1.[24] In a back and forth affair, Collard won the bout via unanimous decision.[25]

Collard faced Alexander Martinez on June 17, 2022 atPFL 4.[26] He lost the close bout via split decision.[27]

2023 season

Collard faced Yamato Nishikawa on April 14, 2023 atPFL 3.[28] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[29]

Collard facedStevie Ray on June 23, 2023 atPFL 6.[30] He won the fight via TKO in the second round.[31]

Collard facedShane Burgos in the semi-finals of the lightweight tournament on August 23, 2023, atPFL 9.[32] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[33]

In the final, Collard facedOlivier Aubin-Mercier on November 24, 2023 atPFL 10.[34] He lost the fight by unanimous decision.[35]

2024 season

Collard faced formerBellator Featherweight championA. J. McKee on February 24, 2024, atPFL vs. Bellator.[36] He lost in the first round by armbar submission.[37][38]

Collard started the 2024 season with a bout against formerBellator Lightweight championPatricky Pitbull on April 12, 2024 atPFL 2.[39] He won the fight by second round technical knockout.[40]

Collard facedMads Burnell in the main event ofPFL 5 at Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, UT on June 21, 2024.[41] He lost the fight via unanimous decision.[42]

Collard faced formerBellator Lightweight championBrent Primus in the semifinals of the2024 Lightweight tournament on August 16, 2024 atPFL 8.[43] He lost the fight by unanimous decision.[44]

2025 PFL World Tournament

On February 26, 2025, the promotion officially revealed that Collard joined the2025 PFL Lightweight Tournament.[45]

In the quarterfinal, Collard faced Alfie Davis on April 18, 2025, atPFL 3.[46] He lost the bout by TKO in the first round.[47]

Professional boxing career

Collard was initially training boxing only to improve his offensive striking skills for mixed martial arts.[3] However, he needed money to fix his car so he opted to take a short-notice professional boxing match.[3] He made his professional boxing debut in 2017, winning via split decision.[48]
