Claude Allen (athlete)

American athlete

Claude Arthur Allen (April 29, 1885, inOlean, New York – January 18, 1979, inRoselle, New Jersey) was an Americantrack and field athlete who competed in the1904 Summer Olympics and acollege basketball head coach. In 1904, Allen placed fifth in thepole vault competition.[1]

Allen coached theNiagara basketball team for the 1909–10 season and theSt. John's basketball team for the1910–11 season. Allen's St. John's team finished the season with a 14–0 record[2] and was retroactively named the national champion by theHelms Athletic Foundation and thePremo-Porretta Power Poll.[3][4]

In his college years, he attended and competed forSyracuse University.[5]
