Ciscissus orKiskisos was a town and bishopric ofancient Cappadocia. InRoman andByzantine times the town's name was sometimes shortened toCissus and belonged to theRoman province ofCappadocia Prima. It became a Christianbishopric, asuffragan of themetropolitan see ofCaesarea in Cappadocia, the capital of the province. The names of two of its bishops are known from extant contemporary documents: Plato was at theTrullan Council of 692, and Soterichus at theSecond Council of Nicaea in 787.[1][2][3] No longer a residential bishopric, Ciscissus is today listed by theCatholic Church as atitular see.[4]
