Ciorogârla is a commune in the southwestern part ofIlfov County,Muntenia,Romania. It is composed of two villages, Ciorogârla and Dârvari. TheCiorogârla River flows through this location; its name, of Slavic origin, means "murky stream".
The commune is situated in theWallachian Plain, on the banks of theCiorogârla River. It is located in the western part of Ilfov County, about 21 km (13 mi) fromBucharest, on the border withGiurgiu County.
TheSamurcășești Monastery [ro], located in Ciorogârla village, was founded in 1808 byvornic Constantin Samurcaș; the church interior was painted byGheorghe Tattarescu in 1870. Severely affected by the1940 Vrancea earthquake, the church was demolished and rebuild soon after, under the supervision of the Ilfov CountyPrefect,Tudorancea Ciurea.[2]
