Jean-Christophe Beck (born 1968) is a Canadian television and film score composer. He is best known for his collaborations withDisney and its subsidiaries, which include composing the soundtracks ofThe Muppets (2011) andMuppets Most Wanted (2014),Frozen (2013) andFrozen 2 (2019), theMarvel Cinematic Universe filmsAnt-Man (2015),Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), andAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) as well as theTV miniseriesWandaVision (2021),Hawkeye (2021), andAgatha All Along (2024) forMarvel Studios, andFree Guy (2021) for20th Century Studios, as well asDisney's 100th anniversary logo.
He composed the scores for several ofShawn Levy's films, includingBig Fat Liar (2002),Just Married (2003),Cheaper by the Dozen (2003),The Pink Panther (2006),The Internship (2013), andFree Guy (2021). Notably, he won anEmmy Award in 1998 for his work on the television seriesBuffy the Vampire Slayer. He is also known for composing the scores of the film seriesThe Hangover (2009-2013). He is the older brother of composer, pianist and rapperChilly Gonzales.
Beck started piano lessons at the age of five, and by the time he turned eleven, he was learningBee Gees songs by ear and performing with his first band, Newton Talks, who licensed a song toHot Tub Time Machine. Beck attendedCrescent School where he studied piano, saxophone, and drums. He wrote two musicals while studying music atYale University.[1]

Upon graduation, Beck moved toLos Angeles to attendUSC's film scoring program, where he studied withJerry Goldsmith. A personal recommendation fromBuddy Baker, then head of the USC Music Department, led to his first assignment for a Canadian TV series calledWhite Fang. Several TV series later, he was asked to score the second season of theWB Network showBuffy the Vampire Slayer. Beck received anEmmy Award forOutstanding Music Composition for his score to theBuffy episode "Becoming, Part 1".[citation needed]
In 2000, the cheerleading comedyBring It On launched Beck's film career. His credits includeUnder the Tuscan Sun,Edge of Tomorrow,Crazy, Stupid, Love,Pitch Perfect, andtheHangover trilogy. More recently, Beck scored theOscar- andGrammy-winning animated filmFrozen, and several installments in theMarvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At theD23 Expo in 2022, it was announced that Beck had composed a new arrangement of "When You Wish Upon a Star" to accompanyDisney's 100th anniversarylogo, conducted byTim Davies, which debuted ahead of the filmStrange World.[2]
Beck works out of his studio inSanta Monica, California.[1]
