Chilbosan (Korean:칠보산;MR:Ch'ilbosan[1]), orMount Chilbo, is a mountain inNorth Hamgyong Province, North Korea. The name translates asseven treasures, stemming from the legend that Chilbo-san has seven treasures buried in it. The name is also translated asSeven Jewled Mountain.[2][3] Chilbo-san is particularly noted for its views when covered in snow. The mountain is commonly divided intoInner Chilbo,Outer Chilbo, andSea Chilbo. Amongst the main attractions apart from the views is theKaesim Temple, dating from the 9th century.
Major part of the mountain is covered bymixed broadleaf and coniferous forest and protected in a 30,000 hanational park. It has been identified byBirdLife International as anImportant Bird Area (IBA) because it supports populations ofOriental storks andcritically endangeredBaer's pochards.[4]
