Thechief minister of Telangana is thechief executive of theIndian state ofTelangana. In accordance with theConstitution of India, thegovernor is a state'sde jure head, butde facto executive authority rests with thechief minister. Following elections to theTelangana Legislative Assembly, thestate's governor usually invites the party (or coalition) with a majority of seats to form thegovernment. The governor appoints the chief minister, whosecouncil of ministers arecollectively responsible to the assembly. Given that he has the confidence of the assembly, the chief minister's term is for five years and is subject to noterm limits.[1]
Since the state'screation on 2 June 2014,[2] Telangana has had two chief ministers, the first belonged toTelangana Rashtra Samithi party, its founder and formerUnion Minister of Labour and EmploymentK. Chandrashekar Rao was the inaugural holder of the office who sworn in two times by winning the2014 and2018 assembly elections consecutively. Thecurrent chief minister isRevanth Reddy of theIndian National Congress since 7 December 2023.
The state of Telangana was officially formed on 2 June 2014.Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao was elected as the first chief minister of Telangana, following elections in which theTelangana Rashtra Samithi party secured a majority.[3] Rao was re-elected to office in 2018. Following the 2023 election,Revanth Reddy of theIndian National Congress was elected as chief minister.

Following theStates Reorganisation Act, which implemented a linguistic reorganization of states, theHyderabad state was dissolved. Its different sections were merged withAndhra State,Mysore State andBombay State respectively.[4]
On 1 November 1956,Hyderabad State ceased to exist; itsGulbarga andAurangabad divisions were merged intoMysore State andBombay State respectively. Its remainingTelugu-speaking portion,Telangana, was merged withAndhra State to form the new state ofUnited Andhra Pradesh.
N. Chandrababu Naidu ofTelugu Desam Party was the longest served chief minister of United Andhra Pradesh.Kiran Kumar Reddy of theIndian National Congress was the last chief minister of United Andhra Pradesh.
