Chidi Ngwaba (known asDr Chidi) is a BritishSeventh-day Adventist doctor who specialises inlifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition.[1][2][3]

Career

Ngwaba trained in surgery and lifestyle medicine atJohns Hopkins University andUniversity College London.[2] He worked atRoyal Free Hospital.[4] He is a founding board member of the European Society of Lifestyle Medicine.[5] He is founding director of a lifestyle medicine clinic onHarley Street and resident doctor at Premier Radio.[5]

In 2002, Ngwaba established a vegetarian restaurant with his wife Uchenna known as "Plant" on Poland Street, Soho. It was described as "the UK's first fast-food takeaway dedicated to vegetarian food".[6]

Nhwaba is an international speaker on health and wellness and has appeared on television includingITV'sGood Morning Britain andSky News.[5] He is an advocate ofplant-based nutrition and is an ambassador ofPlant-Based Health Professionals UK.[7]

Personal life

Ngwaba is of Nigerian descent and as a child lived in a foster home inBrighton.[5] He is married to Uchenna who ran her own dentistry practice onFleet Street.[8] Despite running a vegetarian restaurant in the past, neither Ngwaba or his wife are vegetarian.[8] In the 2000s Ngwaba avoidedred meat but ate chicken and fish.[9] More recently he has defended the health benefits of avegan diet.[10][11]

Politics

He was selected as theBrexit Party candidate for the parliamentary seat ofCroydon North in the2019 general election.[12]

Religion

Ngwaba is an ordained elder within the Seventh Day Adventist church and was awarded an honorary Leadership Award for Adventist Health Educator in 2016.[2][13]
