Chhatrapati is aroyal title fromSanskrit used to denote a king and Queen. The word "Chhatrapati" is aSanskrit compound term composed of "chhatra" (meaning "parasol" or "umbrella") and "pati" (meaning "master", "lord", or "ruler").[1] This title was used by theHouse of Bhonsle, between 1674 and 1818, as the heads of state of theMaratha Empire. The Head Queen of the Maratha Empire is known as The Patta Rani also as Chatrapati orChatrapati Consort
