Cherussery Zainudheen,(1937 - 2016) titleMusliyar,known asZain-ul Ulama, was an Islamic scholar fromKerala, southern India.[1] He succeededE.K. Aboobacker Musliyar as General Secretary forSamastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama (1996 - 2016).[2][3]

A member of themushavara of theSamastha from 1980, Cherussery Zainuddeen Musliyar taughtShari'ah atDarul Huda, Chemmad from 1991 to 2016.[2] He later served as the principal and Pro-chancellor ofDarul Huda, Chemmad.[4][3][2]

Life and career

Cherussery Zainuddeen was born to Cherussery Muhammed Musliyar and Pathummunni atMorayur,Malabar District in 1937.[3] He was married to Bangalath Mariyumma and Khadeeja.[4]

Cherussery Zainuddeen Musliyar started religious teaching at the age of 22.[3] He worked as amudarris at Kodangad,Kondotty,Malappuram District for eighteen years. He then worked atChemmad Jum'ah Masjid, also as a mudarris, for several years.[4]

With the Samastha

Cherussery Zainuddeen Musliyar was inducted to themushavara of theSamastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama in 1980.[2]

He taughtShari'ah atDarul Huda, Chemmad from 1991 to 2016.[2] He later served as the principal and Pro-chancellor ofDarul Huda, Chemmad.[4][3] He was also thekhatib of Qadiyarakam Jum'ah Masjid,Kondotty.[4]

Musliyar served as the General Secretary ofSamastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama from 1996 to 2016.[2] He was also theqadi of hundreds of mahals in different parts of Kerala.[5] He also served as the chairman, Fatwa Committee, theSamastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama.[2]

Cherussery Zainuddeen Musliyar died on 18 February 2016 at a private hospital in Kozhikode and was interred inDarul Huda, Chemmad campus.[4][5][6]
