TheCity of Cherry Hills Village is ahome rule city located inArapahoe County,Colorado, United States.[1] Just south ofDenver, the city population was 6,442 at the2020 United States census.[5] Incorporated 80 years ago in 1945, Cherry Hills Village is a part of theDenver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and theFront Range Urban Corridor.

History

The Town of Cherry Hills Village was incorporated on July 19, 1945.[1] The community was named for a grove of cherry trees near the original town site.[7] On April 16, 2019, the city council voted to rename the 111-year oldSwastika Acres subdivision (a common Southwestern and Native American symbol at the time which also pre-dated Nazi usage) as "Old Cherry Hills".[8]

Cherry Hills Country Club has hosted threeU.S. Opens (1938,1960,1978), twoPGA Championships (1941,1985), oneU.S. Women's Open (2005), and threeU.S. Amateurs (1990, 2012, 2023).

Cherry Hills Village is located in Arapahoe County at coordinates39°38′30″N104°57′34″W / 39.6417°N 104.9594°W /39.6417; -104.9594 (Cherry Hills Village, Colorado) and elevation 5,423 feet (1,653 m).[3]

At the2020 United States census, the city had a total area of 4,017 acres (16.255 km2) including 48 acres (0.194 km2) of water.[5]

Education

The majority of Cherry Hills Village is inCherry Creek School District. Portions are inEnglewood Schools.[9]

As of thecensus[11] of 2000, there were 5,958 people, 1,980 households, and 1,766 families residing in the city. The population density was 958.6 inhabitants per square mile (370.1/km2). There were 2,023 housing units at an average density of 325.5 per square mile (125.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.06%White, 0.64%African American, 0.15%Native American, 1.51%Asian, 0.57% fromother races, and 1.07% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 1.88% of the population.

There were 1,980 households, out of which 45.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 84.0% weremarried couples living together, 3.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 10.8% were non-families. 9.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.01 and the average family size was 3.20.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 31.4% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 17.1% from 25 to 44, 35.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $190,805, and the median income for a family was $200,001. Males had a median income of $100,000+ versus $49,891 for females. The per-capita income for the city was $99,996. About 1.7% of families and 2.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.5% of those under age 18 and 1.5% of those age 65 or over.
