Chauncey Forward (February 4, 1793 – October 19, 1839) was an American politician who served as aJacksonian member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania.

Early life and education

Forward was born in OldGranby, Connecticut, to Samuel and Susannah Forward.[1] Among his brothers wereOliver Forward andWalter Forward. His grandson wasChauncey Forward Black. He moved with his father toOhio in 1800, and a short time afterward toGreensburg, Pennsylvania. He pursued classical studies, studied law, was admitted to the bar inPittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1817 and began practice inSomerset, Pennsylvania. He was married to Rebekah Blair of Maryland.[2]

Career

He was a member of thePennsylvania House of Representatives from 1820 to 1822 and thePennsylvania State Senate for the22nd district from 1823 to 1826.[1][3][4]

Forward was elected to theNineteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation ofAlexander Thomson. He was reelected to theTwentieth Congress and reelected as a Jacksonian to theTwenty-first Congress. He was appointedprothonotary and recorder ofSomerset County, Pennsylvania, in 1831. He died in Somerset in 1839.
