Chatterjee (Bengali :চ্যাটার্জি ), also known asChattopadhyay is aBengali Hindu surname, used by theKulin group of theBengali Brahmin caste.[ 1] Together withBanerjees ,Mukherjees ,Bhattacharjees , andGangulys , Chatterjees form the Kulin Brahmins, the highest tier of theBengali caste system.[ 2] They belong toRarhi clan of Bengali Brahmins and theKashyapa gotra .
