TheChats (Tatar:чат татарлары,Siberian Tatar:цат татарлар, цаттыр, чатар) are one of the three subgroups ofTom Tatar group ofSiberian Tatars. Their traditional areas of settlement are on the riversOb, Chik, Uen', and Chaus inKozhevnikovsky District,Tomsk Oblast, and inKolyvansky andMoshkovsky districts,Novosibirsk Oblast since the 8th century, later also on the territory of modernShegarsky,Tomsky,Kochenyovsky,Bolotninsky,Novosibirsky,Toguchinsky,Iskitimsky,Ordynsky districts, and in the cities ofTomsk,Novosibirsk, andBerdsk.
The Chats (along with other related groups) are Sunni Muslims.[1]
