Charlie Wurz (born 2 December 2005) is an Austrian and Britishracing driver who last raced in theFIA Formula 3 Championship forTrident.
Wurz is the son of formerFormula One driverAlexander Wurz and older brother ofOscar. He is the2022 Formula 4 UAE and the2023 Formula Regional Oceania champion. Wurz debuted inFIA Formula 3 forJenzer Motorsport in2024. Wurz is set to compete in the2026 Super Formula Championship forTeam Goh.
Wurz competed in karting series across Europe since 2017. These included theRotax Max Challenge, WSK events andFIA sanctioned karting series.[1] During this time, Wurz was scouted to join theFerrari Driver Academy.[2]

Wurz made his single-seater debut in 2021, competing at theVallelunga round of theItalian F4 Championship as part of thePrema outfit and taking a win in the rookie class during Race 3.[3] He would go on to compete in his home round at theRed Bull Ring, scoring points that elevated him to 20th in the standings.[4][5] At the end of the year, Wurz took his first win in the category, taking victory at theF4 UAE Trophy Round held in support of the2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.[6][7]
At the beginning of 2022, Wurz competed in theF4 UAE Championship on a full-time basis in preparation for his European season.[8] During the campaign, Wurz took a podium during the first round inYas Marina,[9] before following it up with a double podium for the firstDubai round. He proceeded to take a win each during the next two rounds in Dubai,[10] moving him to the championship lead.[11][12] A further second place podium in the final round allowed Wurz to clinch the title with a race to spare, having secured two wins, eight podiums throughout the season.[13][14][15]
For his main season, Wurz would remain withPrema for the entirety of theItalian F4 Championship, as well as taking part in the first half of theADAC F4 series.[16][17] In the latter, a third place atSpa-Francorchamps and a further pair of podiums atZandvoort meant that the Austrian driver placed seventh in the standings,[18][19] although his campaign in the former would bear more fruit. After a pair of points finishes atImola, Wurz would take his first podium atMisano, having fought for victory with teammateAndrea Kimi Antonelli.[20] More points came atSpa, before the Austrian tasted champagne atVallelunga, scoring a pair of third places.[21] At the penultimate round inMonza, Wurz would take pole for Race 1,[22] which he managed to convert into his first victory in the series,[23] whilst also scoring a podium in Race 2 during a weekend that the Austrian described as having been "fantastic".[24] One more podium came during the season finale atMugello, with Wurz finishing the season fourth in the standings.[25]

Wurz also made a cameo appearance inSpanish F4 atCampos Racing inJerez, substituting in for an injured Jesse Carrasquedo Jr..[26] He took a third-placed podium in just his first race, with the Austrian finishing seventh and sixth in the other two races.[27] He also competed in theFIA Motorsport Games Formula 4 Cup for Team Austria,[28] where he finished the main race in 11th place.[29]
At the start of 2023, Wurz took part in theFormula Regional Oceania Championship inNew Zealand, driving forM2 Competition.[30][31] He started the season in a strong manner, taking the championship lead during the first round with a pair of second-placed finishes in the main races.[32][33] At the next event inTeretonga, the Austrian would extend his advantage at the top of the standings, winning races 1 and 3.[34][35] After a lull atManfeild, where Wurz finished no higher than fifth,[36] he returned to the top step of the podium in the reverse grid race atHampton Downs. As championship adversaryCallum Hedge suffered from mechanical difficulties during the race, Wurz once again moved to the top of the standings.[37] He won the feature race atTaupo while Hedge finished fourth, securing the series championship.[38]
Wurz confirmed in January that he would be competing in theFormula Regional European Championship during the 2023 season, driving forART Grand Prix alongsideLaurens van Hoepen andMarcus Amand.[39][40] He scored a point during the opening round inImola, and had a difficult first few rounds before he was forced to miss theSpa-Francorchamps round after contracting laryngitis.[41] He only raced in two more rounds of the championship following that before switching toEuroformula Open, therefore ending 26th in the standings with one point.[42]

In2023, Wurz made hisEuroformula Open debut for the fifth round at theRed Bull Ring withCryptoTower Racing Team.[43] He began his campaign with a podium at theRed Bull Ring,[44] before securing his first and only win of the year during a dramatic second race inMonza.[45] He concluded his campaign with a double rostrum during theBarcelona season finale, finishing sixth in the standings with one win, five podiums and 139 points.[46]

In2023, Wurz participated in the final edition of the FIA Formula 3 World Cup at Macau withJenzer Motorsport.[47] He would qualify 18th for the qualification race and finished in 11th, However, he failed to finish the main race.[48][49]

In October 2023, Wurz joinedJenzer Motorsport for FIA Formula 3 post-season testing atJerez.[50][51] Wurz was later confirmed to be joining the Swiss outfit for the2024 FIA F3 season, alongsideMax Esterson andMatías Zagazeta.[52] Wurz only finished in the points once which took place during theMelbourne feature race, where excellent tyre management brought him up to fifth place after starting 14th.[53] He qualified sixth and was fighting for another top 5 finish in theSilverstone sprint race,[54] but he was involved in a race-ending collision withAlex Dunne on the Wellington Straight.[55][56] Wurz finished 22nd in the drivers' standings, ahead of Zagazeta but behind Esterson.[57]

Remaining in Formula 3 for a second campaign, Wurz switched toTrident for the2025 season, partnering reigningFRECA championRafael Câmara and rookie championNoah Strømsted.[58]
Wurz left Europe to compete inSuper Formula with the new revivedTeam Goh.[59]
In 2021, Wurz competed in two races of thePorsche Sprint Challenge Europe at theHungaroring. He won one race, having secured a pole position and fastest lap in the same event. In the following race, Wurz finished on the podium in third position.[60]
Wurz returned to the Porsche Sprint Challenge at the end of the year, this time racing in the Middle East. He managed to win three races, which placed him sixth in the GT4 standings despite missing the majority of the season.[61]
In 2023, Wurz competed in the second round of the 2023-24 Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East atBahrain International Circuit. He finished sixth overall in both races.[62][63]
Wurz also made his series debut in 2026, where he race in Super GT's GT300 withapr Lexus car as the third driver, alongsideKazuto Kotaka andMiki Koyama.[59]
Wurz's father is doubleLe Mans 24h winner and formerFormula 1 driverAlexander Wurz. Wurz resides inMonte Carlo, but competes under theAustrian flag.[64]
