Charlie George Caton (born 25 November 2002) is a Welshfootballer who plays as aforward forNational League clubHartlepool United on loan fromAccrington Stanley.
He is the son of longstandingBala Town manager Colin Caton.[2]
Caton attendedYsgol Brynhyfryd inRuthin,Denbighshire.[3]
In December 2018 Caton was called up for theWelsh Schools FA under-18 training camp in Cardiff. At the time he played forWrexham under-16s, as well asLlangynhafal in the localLlandyrnog & District Summer League.[4] In February 2019 he scored for the Wales schoolboys team in a match against Greece.[5]
Having started his career with the Wrexham academy, Caton joinedShrewsbury Town as a first-year scholar in 2019.[6][7] On 10 November 2020, Caton made his first-team debut from the bench in a 4–3EFL Trophy victory overCrewe Alexandra.[8] Having made a total of five appearances over the course of the2020–21 season, including three inLeague One, he signed a new two-year contract in June 2021.[7]
In November 2022, Caton joinedNational League North clubChester on an initial one-month loan deal.[9] Following an impressive start to his spell, the deal was first extended by a further month,[10] then subsequently extended until the end of the season.[11]
Following the conclusion of the2022–23 season, it was confirmed Caton would depart the club upon the expiration of his contract.[12]
On 27 May 2023, Caton returned to Chester on a permanent two-year deal following his successful loan spell the previous season.[13][14]
Following a strong start to the2024–25 season, Caton was named National League North Player of the Month for August 2024.[15]
On 16 January 2025, Caton signed forLeague Two clubAccrington Stanley on a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.[16]
