Kanukuntla Subhash Chandrabose is an Indianlyricist andsinger who works inTelugu cinema.[2][3] Chandrabose debuted as a lyricist with the 1995 filmTaj Mahal.[4] In a career spanning over 25 years, he has written lyrics for about 3600 songs in over 850 films.[5][6] Chandrabose won anAcademy Award and aGolden Globe Award for the song "Naatu Naatu" fromRRR (2022). He has received oneNational Award,[7] twoNandi Awards, twoFilmfare Awards, and threeSIIMA Awards as a lyricist.

Early life and career

Chandrabose was born in the village ofChallagariga ofWarangal district,Andhra Pradesh, India (now inBhupalpally district,Telangana, India), where he completed high school.[1] He is the youngest of four siblings, and his father worked as a primary school teacher.[1] He earned a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering fromJawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad.[6][8] Early in his career, he tried working as a singer inDoordarshan, without success. He then decided to switch to working as a lyricist.[8]

He entered the film industry withMuppalaneni Shiva's filmTaj Mahal (1995). Music directorM. M. Srilekha helped him with his first film song, "Manchu Kondallona Chandramaa" in 1995.[1][4] He adopted Chandrabose as his screen name on the advice of his first directorMuppalaneni Siva.[1][3]

Family life

Chandrabose married Suchitra, achoreographer in the Telugu film industry.[9] He has one son Nanda Vanamali and one daughter Amrita Varshini. He has two brothers (Rajender, Koti) and a sister (Swaroopa).
