Chandra Sturrup (born September 12, 1971) is aBahamiantrack and field sprint athlete.[1]

Career

She is a100m specialist and theBahamian record holder for the women's100m with a personal best of 10.84 set inLausanne,Switzerland on July 5, 2005. Sturrup is an alumnus ofNorfolk State University, and has taken part in almost every major event since 1991 after the birth of her son, Shawn Murray Jr. For most of her career, she was coached byTrevor Graham.

Sturrup competed at the2008 Summer Olympics inBeijing at the100 metres sprint. In her first-round heat she placed first in front ofKelly-Ann Baptiste andLina Grincikaite in a time of 11.30 to advance to the second round. There she improved her time to 11.16 and placed third behindSherone Simpson andMuna Lee. In her semi final Sturrup finished in fifth position with 11.22 seconds, causing elimination. Her fellow BahamianDebbie Ferguson qualified for the final with the same time, but she finished fourth in her semi final.[1]
