Chamarande (French pronunciation:[ʃamaʁɑ̃d]) is acommune ofEssonnedepartment in the southern suburbs ofParis.

Inhabitants of Chamarande are known asChamarandais.

History

Initially, this village was namedBonnes. In 1685,d'Ornaison family, the owner of the village andits château, gained permission from the French king to change the name toChamarande. A later owner, theDuc de Persigny, wasMinister of the Interior underNapoléon III and a financial backer of the building of the Paris-Orléans rail station in the village, today anRER Cstation.
