Chak (Pashto:چک) is adistrict in the southern part ofMaidan Wardak Province ofAfghanistan.[1][2][3][4] Its population was estimated at 83,376 in 2005, the last year for which figures are available. Theadministrative center of Chak district is thetown ofChak.

Chak District is within the heartland of theWardak tribe ofPashtuns.[5] To its southeast isSaydabad District, to the northeastNirkh District, and to the northwest isDay Mirdad District.

History

Outside the district of Chak there are many ancientBuddhist remains, including a fortified monastery and sixstupas, one of which contained a bronze vase with aKharoshthi inscription that held 61Kushan coins, which is now in theBritish Museum's collection.[6]
