TheChakhesangs are a majorNagaethnic group inhabiting theNortheast Indian state ofNagaland.[2] Chakhesangs were previously known as the former EasternAngami, now recognized as a separate ethnic group. The name "Chakhesang" was created as anacronym from the names of three ethnic groups: theChakrü (Chokri),Khezha and SouthernSangtam (now separately known asPochury).[3]
Most of the villages fall withinPhek District ofNagaland.[4] Two Chakhesang villages (Jessami and Soraphung/Krowemi) are located inUkhrul District ofManipur.
