Chad Alec Ripperger (born October 11, 1964) is an AmericanCatholic priest andexorcist. He is the founder of thetraditional Catholic Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother (the Doloran Fathers)[1] in theArchdiocese of Denver,Colorado, United States.
Ripperger was born inCasper, Wyoming. He earned two bachelor's degrees, in theology and philosophy, from theUniversity of San Francisco; and two master's degrees, one in philosophy from the Center for Thomistic Studies of theUniversity of St. Thomas inHouston,Texas, and another in theology fromHoly Apostles College and Seminary inCromwell, Connecticut. He joined thePriestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP), which sent him toRome to receive his doctorate in philosophy from thePontifical University of the Holy Cross.[2]
He was ordained aCatholic priest on June 7, 1997, byEdward Slattery for thePriestly Fraternity of Saint Peter.[3] His assignments after ordination included the diocesanSt. Gregory the Great Seminary inSeward, Nebraska of theDiocese of Lincoln,Nebraska. He also taught liturgy atOur Lady of Guadalupe Seminary inDenton, Nebraska.[4] He also served as a pastor inCoeur d'Alene, Idaho.[5]
In the early 2010s, BishopEdward Slattery ofTulsa asked Ripperger to consider training exorcists for the diocese; from that, an idea developed to begin a society of exorcists. Ripperger moved into a motherhouse in 2014 and then a celebration for the formal establishment of theSociety of the Most Sorrowful Mother was held in March 2015.[6] In September 2016, the Society moved to theArchdiocese of Denver.[7] It is presently based inKeenesburg, Colorado.[8]
