Cetancodontamorpha is atotal clade ofartiodactyls[1] defined, according to Spauldinget al., asWhippomorpha "plus all extinct taxa more closely related to extant members of Whippomorpha than to any other living species".[2]
Whippomorpha is thecrown clade containingCetacea (whales, dolphins, etc.) andhippopotamuses.[3] Members of the whippomorphstem group (i.e., "stem-whippomorphs") include such taxa as the familyEntelodontidae and the genusAndrewsarchus.[4]
