Cessnock Correctional Centre, anAustralianminimum and maximum security prison for males, is located inCessnock, New South Wales. It was opened in 1972 under the nameCessnock Training Centre.[1] The centre is operated byCorrective Services NSW. It detainssentenced andremand prisoners under New South Wales and/orCommonwealth legislation.

Facilities were significantly updated during 2012, including the completion of Australia's first purpose-built maximum securitysex offenders unit; built at a cost of $97 million.[2][3]
