These species were formerly placed in the genusCercomacra. Amolecular phylogenetic study published in 2014 found thatCercomacra, as then defined, waspolyphyletic.[2] The genus was split to createmonophyletic genera and six species were moved to the newly erected genusCercomacroides with the dusky antbird as thetype species.[1][2]
