TheCentral Maluku languages are a proposed subgroup of theCentral–Eastern Malayo-Polynesian branch of theAustronesian language family which comprises around fifty languages spoken principally on theSeram,Buru,Ambon and theSula Islands,Indonesia. None of the languages have as many as fifty thousand speakers, and several are extinct.
The traditional components of Central Maluku are theSula,Buru, andEast Central Maluku languages, plus theAmbelau isolate.
